Frequent urination in pregnancy, especially in early pregnancy, is common. A woman’s body is quite different from a man’s considering it goes through hormonal changes most of the time. One of the stages in a woman’s life that faces a lot of hormonal changes is pregnancy.
The side effects of these hormonal changes can be many from morning sickness to increased flatulence in pregnant women, to stress to low or high libido, to frequent urination. This symptom of pregnancy is onset from early pregnancy and continues till the third semester. Many women have found that the first sign of pregnancy is frequent urination.
Causes of frequent urination in pregnant women
In the first weeks of pregnancy, women pee more due to additional fluid buildup and surplus blood that is excreted through the kidneys. As the baby grows in the uterus, there is more pressure in the bladder, increase the woman’s urge to urinate more often.
Frequent urination relief in pregnant women
1. One cannot do much about frequent urination in women in this case, because this is a sign of pregnancy. However, one can manage it better to specially see that this problem does not happen much at night. So drink more fluids during the day and cut back on them at nigh you can also consider avoiding liquids that cause you to pass urine like caffeinated drinks, coffee, tea etc because they tend to act like diuretics.
2. If you want to know that what you are going through is just a sign of pregnancy or if you have urinary tract infection or infection in the bladder, along with pregnancy, you can look for the following signs:
- Are you getting a burning sensation while passing urine?
- Is there abdominal pain?
- Do you get backache?
- Do you have fever ?
Also one should note that there can also be a condition that you may be having preterm labor. So talk to your doctor if you have any of the above mentioned symptoms.
3. Do kegel exercises : Kegel exercises is recommended for better control of the bladder and urethra. It is notice that there is more pressure on the bladder during the end of the pregnancy when the baby comes to the pelvic area before labor. When trying to urinate, lean forward so that the entire bladder is emptied properly. As mentioned before, one can get better control with Kegel exercises specially in stress incontinence when a woman tends to leak urine during cough, sneezing, laughing etc. But this stress continence does go away after the birth of the baby.
