This area has large number of sebaceous glands and hence the oiliness. An oily nose is usually the result of such oil buildup. The specific facial contours also facilitate the collection of oil in T-Zone. One of the most common areas where oil accumulates is the nose corners.
• The nose is also home to oil glands which release sebum. The oil glands present on the nose are bigger and increasingly active, thereby causing them to secrete additional amounts of oil. The excess secretion of the oil is a method to protect the nose and face the sun and other environmental elements, as the face constantly remains exposed to such hazards. The glands also play a key role in natural exfoliation and lubrication.
• The production of oil is related to a type of sex hormone called androgens. These hormones activate the sebaceous glands and cause them to grow and turn increasingly active. Subsequently, more oil gets produced leading to an oily nose. Androgens become very active during puberty, thereby causing the body to release more oil, particularly in the T-zone and the nose.
• Humans use their hands to touch the face at all times of the day. This can be accidental touching or purposeful touching. If the hands are regularly cleaned and washed, they are not always free of oil or completely sterilized. For instance, we may touch the hair and then inadvertently touch our face and nose, thereby transferring the oil from the hair to the area, thus increasing the chances of an oily nose.

How to stop oily nose – home remedies

An oily nose is not a serious health issue. Use the below listed home remedies to get rid of the condition:

• Wash the face with water on a frequent basis to ensure that the nose is kept clean and free of dirt and oil. You can also use a cleanser or a mild moisturizer with or without the water to ensure that the nose is free of environmental debris and excess oil.
• There is no better remedy to an oily nose than exfoliation. The process helps eliminate dead skin cells as well as prevents the clogging of skin pores. You may use a gentle, soft scrub to exfoliate at least 2 to 3 times per week. This will ensure that the nose is kept free of excess oil for a longer duration. You may also try scrubbing an oil nose to remove blackheads.
• Lemon has been known to be naturally good for the skin. It also is helpful in tackling the problem of oily nose and skin. The natural properties of lemon can help remove stubborn dust and dirt from the nose and skin and keep it clean, unclogged, and clear. Put a few drops of lemon juice on a ball of cotton and gently apply on nose. Clean with 2 or 3 swabs of cotton to get rid of all grime and dirt on nose and face.
• An alcohol-free toner can also be used to remove dust and dirt from the face and nose. The toner can shrink enlarged pores and help prevent clogging of pores. People with oily skin will find this method to be especially useful.
• Honey can also be used to effectively remove dust and dirt from nose. It ensures that the nose is kept dry by preventing the collection of oil on the nose. Massage the nose with some honey, many times a day, to remove excess oil deposits on the nose and the face. The procedure will ensure that the skin is kept healthy and glowing.
• Another effective home remedy for oily nose is using yoghurt. Mix a few spoons of honey and lemon to 1 spoonful of yogurt and then apply the paste to the T-zone, especially the nose. After 15 to 20 minutes, wash the face with cold water. Use this remedy 2 to 3 times a week to get rid of excess oil on nose and attain smooth skin texture.
• Using water and vinegar is another sire-shot way to removed excess oil from nose and face. Prepare a solution with equal amounts of vinegar and water and apply on face. Wash with cold water after about 20 minutes. All the excess oil will be soaked by vinegar, thereby helping prevent oil buildup.
