Ultrasound scan safe during pregnancy?

Are ultrasounds safe during pregnancy? Yes, they are safe for pregnancy, if done correctly. Ultrasound scans are required for pregnancy as they provide a lot of important information to the doctor about the baby’s growth and well-being. Ideally, one should have 3 ultrasounds over the Ist, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.

In some cases, it may be required a few more times. What the physician and the patient both need to keep in mind is that the ultrasound scan should not be randomly used to check the fetal heart beat, or as a means of reassuring over-anxious would-be mothers and most importantly, not for sex determination. X-rays may be harmful but not ultrasound scan for pregnancy.
